A quick post today as it's all I have time for, but I still wanted to share something with you guys.
My girlfriend quit smoking a couple of years ago. She'd tried on several occasions, but the longest that she had managed in the past was 9 months before she caved and took them up again. She didn't use patches or anything, she would just reach a certain point and then start up again.
I remember having a conversation with her one day.
"The problem with me", she said, "is that I'm all or nothing. If I have one, I have to have them all, and I'm right back to being a smoker again."
How is this relevant to you?
Because I explained to her that it wasn't the case. I explained that slip-ups happen, and if she has a cigarette today, that doesn't make her a smoker. It makes her an ex-smoker who had a bit of a relapse!
It may sound insignificant to you, but it was actually the difference for her, and 2 years later she's still an ex-smoker. She's had a few cigarettes between then and now, but it doesn't matter, because she knows that one slip up doesn't make all the difference.
It's the same with your weight loss. One particularly bad day, or weekend, or holiday doesn't mean that you're not still trying to deal with your weight loss. If you have a slip up, deal with it, chalk it up to experience and get right back where you left off.
That's what makes the difference between someone who has taken CONTROL of their weight, versus someone who lets it control them.
More soon,
Dan
